Virat Kohli has once again left his fans wanting for more; the quest of his 71st century continues as he, once again, failed to convert his fifty into a century on Day 1 at The Oval. Ollie Robinson nicked him off through to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow as India lost their fifth wicket after being put in by Joe Root under overcast conditions.

“If Anderson doesn’t get him. Robinson will.” That was Nasser Hussain, concluding with ” a big, big wicket.”

This is the third time in the series Virat Kohli has been accounted by Robinson, who, after receiving his Man of the Match award at Headingley, had stated that the England pacers have wired out the “simple plan” against the Indian skipper: “fourth and fifth stump, get it to angle away, and hope he nicks it and he did”.

Like all his dismissals in the series so far, Virat Kohli did it again – edging behind – at the Oval. The metronome Ollie Robinson has bowled with remarkable consistency and accuracy of line and length throughout the series; so he did on Thursday.

For the wicket, Robinson angled the ball in, dragged his length a tad shorter and in the channel of the fourth stump forcing Virat Kohli to play at it, who could have done better than looking to work it on the leg side. The red cherry took a thin outside edge, just enough to claim the big wicket.

The England players and the crowd rejoiced the scalp as Virat Kohli, despite being dropped once by Root, was looking ominous.

Robinson had earlier dismissed KL Rahul with an in-nipper pinning him on the pads for lbw. India, at the time of writing, 106/5 with Ajinkta Rahane and Rishabh Pant looking to bail the side out of trouble.
