Wales take on Ireland in the Six Nations curtain-raiser this afternoon, with Warren Gatland back for a second spell as head coach.

The hosts made a surprise move to restore their most successful boss of all-time to his former role in December after sacking Wayne Pivac, who masterminded only three victories from 12 total matches in a dismal 2022 for Welsh rugby.

Gatland has little time to re-establish his preferred methods and playing style ahead of the looming World Cup, which kicks off in France in September.

Ireland’s visit to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff is a tough test for the New Zealander’s return, with the Men in Green sitting atop of the world rankings after a fantastic year.

Andy Farrell’s men are generally considered as favourites for Six Nations glory next month having come so close last time around, then bouncing back to clinch an historic series triumph in New Zealand and impressive autumn wins over Australia and South Africa.
