Troy Deeney v Dejan Lovren
Dejan Lovren signed a new £100,000-a-week contract last week. The Liverpool defender has been inconsistent throughout the 2016-17 season. So, it’s no surprise that the Croatia international’s new deal raised eyebrows.
Lovren struggled under the pressure of his £20m price tag upon his move to Liverpool from Southampton in 2014.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Lovren will struggle with the pressure of justifying his new contract. Troy Deeney is a combative striker with good movement. Worryingly, the Watford captain could cause Lovren a headache on Monday night.
Miguel Britos v Divock Origi
Divock Origi has struggled to lead the Liverpool line in the second half of the season. Admittedly, there is no question that the Belgium international is a talented player. However, like Lovren, consistency is Origi’s biggest issue.
There is still an element of naivety to his game. However, Origi has a big role to play with Jurgen Klopp struggling to keep important players fit. The former Lille man will come up against Miguel Britos at Vicarage Road on Monday night. The striker will need to win that battle to give Liverpool a platform for three points.
Daryl Janmaat vs Philippe Coutinho
Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have been doing their utmost to keep Liverpool’s top-four bid alive. The Brazilian duo will be instrumental to getting Liverpool over the line in the hunt for a Champions League spot. Coutinho is the architect behind Liverpool’s attacking moves. However, the South American will need to fulfil his defensive duties given Daryl Janmaat’s attacking thrust from full-back. This could prove a key battle in the London clash.
