Wayne Rooney: Plymouth Argyle documentary will be good for club financially
Wayne Rooney believes the positives of Plymouth Argyle being the subject of a new behind-the-scenes documentary far outweigh any negatives.
The Championship club stand to gain financially from it, but Rooney also thinks it will give the Green Army a better understanding of the work that is put in by the players and staff to prepare for matches. A production crew has has already begun recording for what is likely to be a feature-length film which will be streamed next summer.
Footage was shot at Argyle's last two games before the international break, the 1-0 win against Portsmouth at Home Park and the 1-1 draw away to Derby County.

Rooney said: "It's something myself and the club have come together on. From the club's point of view it's beneficial financially. When it does come out I think it will be great for the fans to see behind the scenes and what happens at the club, not just from my point of view but from the players' point of view and from the staff's point of view. It will give a real good insight."
On how 'behind the scenes' it would be, the Pilgrims' boss said: "It has to be at the right times. Anything which we feel could affect players on matchday, that access won't be there.
"I think it happens nowadays anyway, at most clubs they have their own internal cameras almost everywhere as well so I don't think it's any different for the players, or a shock to have cameras around. Once they get used to that it's not an issue."
Argyle are becoming the latest EFL club to enter the world of behind-the-scenes documentaries, with Sunderland Wrexham perhaps the two most high-profile and successful so far.
Rooney said: "I think it's really interesting for the fans to get a better understanding. Of course, the fans see the players go out onto the pitch and play in the games but it's actually seeing that preparation of what goes on throughout the week before matchday, and the work the players are putting in and how much the players care, how much we all care to get results."
The production crew will not be with Argyle constantly throughout the rest of the 2024/25 Championship campaign. Rooney said: "They are not around every minute of every day. There will be set days which we give them to film.
"We go out on the training pitch and there is cameras there every day anyway regardless, from the club's point of view. It's not going to be a massive difference for the players or for the staff to deal with. I think it will be good for the club. I know there is big brands looking at it to take it, where that goes to we will have to wait and see."
He added: "I think for the club, financially certainly it will help, which is really important for us with where we are at, but also if I'm a fan of the club I think it's something I would be really intrigued to watch. Obviously, you have to take everything into account and we felt the positives were way bigger than the negatives."
