From Wearing ‘The Bear’ Apron to Private Meals, These A-Listers Are Auctioning Experiences to Support Strike Relief

While the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes are stalling productions across Hollywood, actors and filmmakers are getting to work in a different way to financially support the unions.

A viral eBay auction featuring a slew of once-in-a-lifetime events, custom memorabilia, and never-released parts of film history has all net proceeds supporting non-profit Free the Work, which is a “global community of underrepresented creators changing the lens through which we look at [diversity and inclusion] and production.”

From a custom “Bob’s Burgers” song to dinner with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross, or even a special one-on-one dog walk with Adam Scott, the auction offerings range from the unique to the um, very unique. Lena Dunham has two listings, one to paint a whimsical mural over the course of five hours in a private residence, and another partnered with Spike Jonze to discuss the basics of storytelling for aspiring screenwriters.

The “Bones,” “White Collar,” and “New Girl” casts are reuniting for special Zoom sessions, and actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rachel Bloom, and Sarah Silverman are listing games of 20 Questions. Married actors Ron Livingston and Rosemarie DeWitt will give couples counseling, and costumes worn on “The Bear” and “The O.A.” are up for purchase.

All events and experiences listed expire one year from the date of auction, with only U.S. residents allowed to bid. Of course, as listed, the experiences must include “respect for talent and their staff” and auction options will immediately end with no refund if there is “inappropriate behavior or solicitation for personal gain by the winner.” Also to note, a background check for the winner and guests may be required, with talent additionally being able to end any experience on their own grounds. —Samantha Bergeson
