Feb. 2—The Webb City girls basketball team allowed just 20 points in each half of basketball on Thursday night when it hosted Ozark.
The Cardinals pulled away in the second half for a 56-40 victory on the wings of their defense.
Webb City led 12-9 after the first quarter and 27-20 by halftime. Ozark managed 10 points in each of the final two quarters while Webb had its biggest quarter in the third tallying 17 points.
The Cardinals made eight 3-pointers and Malorie Stanley had five of them for a total of 15 points in the game. Four shots went through the net from beyond the arc for the Cardinals in the third quarter.
Freshman Abby Sargent also scored 15 while shooting 5 for 8 at the free throw line. Whitlee Keith chipped in 14 and made two triples.
Ozark was led by Sydney Hampton's 12 points and 11 from Macey Sult. The Tigers fall to 9-10 with the loss.
Webb City improves to 8-12 and will play again at 7:30 p.m. Monday as it visits Willard (6-12).
