Pascal Wehrlein will be back in the driving seat for Sauber at this weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix.
The German's race debut for the team has been delayed by a back injury sustained in a nasty crash at January's Race of Champions event in Miami.
Antonio Giovinazzi had deputised for the German, but, after impressing at short notice at the opening race in Australia, the Italian put his car into a wall twice in as many days in China.
Discussing Wehrlein's injury in Shanghai, Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn said: "Pascal had his accident in Miami and he suffered compression on his back.
"The injuries he had were micro fractures, which are very normal with this type of compression.
"He was released from hospital and was declared fit to race [in China] but his training has been affected."
