'We'll see' - Rayan Cherki makes new transfer admission amid Liverpool opportunity
Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki gave an unsure answer when asked if he would still be with the club by the end of the current season. This comes after Liverpool were rumoured to be waiting to be pounce amid the French side's financial troubles.
Last month French football watchdog Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG) slapped Lyon with provisional relegation to Ligue 2 and a transfer ban as the club's debt rose from a reported €458m (£379.7m) to €508m (£421.1m). Needing to substantially improve their financial situation, subsequent reports suggested key players like Cherki could be reluctantly sold.
The 21-year-old was quickly linked directly with a Liverpool transfer, with the ECHO commenting at the outset how such a deal would match the opportunistic trend of recent signings, like Federico Chiesa.

Despite their plight, business in the south of France seems usual. Lyon are fifth in Ligue 1, unbeaten in 12 domestic matches and just last night secured a 3-2 Europa League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Cherki was the star of the show, netting once and providing the assists for both other goals his team scored. Given little opportunity to bask in the glory, he was questioned by French TV about his future with Les Gones.
"For the moment, there are still two matches left [before the winter break]," he responded, via L'Equipe. "We'll see at the end of the season if I'm still here or not."
Those contributions moved the France Under-21 international onto five goals and six assists for the season. As a player who operates comfortably as an attacking midfielder or on either flank, he would be a great option for Arne Slot.
His current manager Pierre Sage has stated his belief that he can retain Cherki during the upcoming transfer window, however this latest update from L'Equipe claims Lyon are prepared to accept any 'satisfactory' offers.
