Wells Fargo Championship tips: Justin Thomas good value to replicate Major success at Quail Hollow

Quail Hollow Golf Club in Charlotte, North Carolina is an old-style classical golf course that is 7,538 yards in length and a testing par 71. It is tree-lined, has several dog-legs, seven water hazards and sixty-one bunkers, while the sub-air drying system ensures that the big greens run true but fast.

Players will need to drive well on this course and take advantage of the par fives to score. Max Homa is the defending champion this week, but that was at TPC Potomac and not here.

Rory McIlroy is our firm favourite this week, which is unsurprising given his profile as a three-time winner here, and his price is stingy. He was last seen missing the cut at the Masters with some poor form by his standards but this is his favourite course and he is primed to bounce back.

Arguably better value can be found in the shape of Justin Thomas at around 22/1. He has the game to excel on this course, and indeed JT won his first major here in 2017. If he can sort out his putting stroke, he must surely be a contender this week.

Suggested bet: Justin Thomas each-way in the Wells Fargo Championship

Last week's comfortable winner Tony Finau earned this tipping service some tasty profit last week in Mexico, but that has brought his price down this week, and after he spent some time with his wife and kids after his win, we can give him a break now in Charlotte.

At around the 20/1 mark, Jordan Spieth has shown good form and has often been in contention in recent months, but can he keep enough errors out of his game at Quail Hollow to win this week?

On the same mark is Viktor Hovland, who boasts a solid all-round game but he does seem to struggle on a Sunday when in contention.

Further out to the 25/1 mark brings in the defending champion, Max Homa, who is a big talent but has not been in the best of form of late.

Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler have decided to take this week off, but the field is not weak as it is a designated event with enhanced prize money.

Matt Fitzpatrick sits at 25/1 too, and he will likely be ready to go after winning the RBC Heritage and coming close with brother Alex in the Zurich Classic.

I like the form of Sahith Theegala, and the course sets up well for his game, making the easily available 40/1 look attractive each-way value.

Suggested bet: Sahith Theegala each-way in the Wells Fargo Championship

Keith Mitchell has good course form and looked decent at the Zurich Classic when paired with Sung Jae Im, while another with course form is Brian Harman, who might just pop into the frame after a few ordinary weeks.

And finally, at big odds, I am drawn to Kurt Kitayama, who was a recent winner at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He should enjoy a course that looks set up to suit his game and a player of his calibre stands out at 125/1.
