Wesley Fofana makes admission about new Chelsea role and highlights one negative at Leicester
Wesley Fofana has admitted that he "enjoyed" lining up at right-back for Chelsea in their 2-1 win at Leicester City on Saturday. Without Reece James and Malo Gusto for the clash at the King Power Stadium, head coach Enzo Maresca opted to shift Fofana across to right-back and bring Benoit Badiashile in alongside Levi Colwill at the heart of defence.
Fofana wasn't just solely deployed as a right-back at Leicester as he slotted in on the right side of a back three when Chelsea were in possession. It's not the first time the Frenchman has taken on the role after doing likewise in the big win at West Ham earlier in the season.
At times when both James and Gusto are going to be out of action, Fofana may well continue to get the nod on the right. If that is indeed the case, the 23-year-old is more than happy to play anywhere on the pitch for Maresca and the team.
"I enjoyed it," he said in his club interview after the game. "To be totally honest, I don’t really care where I play. Wherever the manager wants me to play, I’m happy to do my job.
"Whenever I pull on the Chelsea shirt, I just try to do my best and help the team in any way I can. I enjoy playing right-back or centre-back, wherever I’m needed"
Chelsea's latest victory has seen them move to within one point of second-place Manchester City in the Premier League table. On a day when Fofana returned to former club Leicester City, the defender was very pleased to leave with all three points but highlighted "one little negative" in the win.

"It was a good return for me, for sure," he explained. "I had many good years here with Leicester so to come back here and get the win with Chelsea, it means a lot. It’s a very good feeling to get the win and head back to London with the three points because we knew this would be a difficult game.
"Playing after the international break is always difficult, especially as the early game, because we have a lot of players away with their nations. So, this was an important win for us. I thought we played very well, it’s a good three points and for sure this is the most important thing.
"The one little negative was conceding at the end - we wanted the clean sheet - but the job was done, and we got the three points to take back to London. That’s the main thing. It keeps us in a good place in the Premier League standings going into a busy period of fixtures and now we just need to keep pushing forward."
