West Brom Fan View: Renewed hope under Alan Pardew

It may have taken a while, but Alan Pardew’s methods finally seem to be working for West Bromwich Albion, and it’s giving fans real hope that the club can stay in the Premier League.

The results that previous coach Tony Pulis achieved wasn’t the problem, it was the uninspiring and hopeless nature of the performances that really annoyed the Baggies fans.

But that’s all changed now. Against an Everton side fielding over £100 million worth of talent in the starting eleven, and at Goodison Park, Pardew’s men were by far the better team.

It was a performance that made you proud to be an Albion fan, with every player not only showing effort and commitment but also quality on the ball and the bravery to take the game to the opposition. Players are getting into the box, making forward runs and being positive in everything they do. Even though we only drew 1-1, we played to win, and that’s something West Brom fans haven’t seen for a long time indeed.

Just like last week’s win, every single player put in a good performance, and Everton found it difficult to handle our confidence and quality on the ball. The most obvious piece of quality was Grzegorz Krychowiak’s assist for Jay Rodriguez’s goal, an outside of the foot pass that was perfectly weighted, it bypassed the entire Everton defence and Rodriguez did the rest.

However, the best player on the pitch by a long distance was Salomon Rondon. On a day where football fans all over the country mourned the passing of West Brom legend Cyrille Regis, Rondon put in a performance that Regis would have appreciated.

He held the ball up well, showed great composure and could have had a stunning goal if not for the crossbar in the final minutes. This was after Rondon momentarily lost his head after a horrible freak injury to James McCarthy, with the Venezuelan clearly distressed on the pitch, he recovered to produce an outstanding performance.
