West Ham United are reportedly targeting a move for Red Bull Salzburg youngster Junior Adamu this summer.
Adamu is a highly-rated striker that has been ranked as one of the top young talents across Europe. The 20-year-old has been an integral part of the RB Salzburg team this season, scoring seven league goals from 30 appearances. The Nigerian-born star also featured nine times in the Champions League, scoring against Bayern Munich as his side secured a 1-1 draw in the Round of 16 first-leg.
Now, reports suggest Adamu could be set for a Premier League switch, with West Ham shortlisting the star as one of a number of attacking options.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that West Ham are monitoring Adamu’s situation as well as Southampton.
Adamu is valued by the Austrian club at around £12m. With both clubs looking to spend money this summer, this should be well within their price range.
West Ham are looking to bolster their attack in the hope of securing a top six finish next season. They will also look for a solid run in the Europa Conference League.
Southampton on the other hand will be hoping to stay clear of the relegation zone next season. The Saints finished the season in 15th, and were just five points from the drop.
But the two sides are not the only potential suitors for Adamu.
The report also claims that Ajax, Hertha Berlin and Red Bull Leipzig are frontrunners for the youngsters signature.
However, both English clubs will be hopeful that the prospect of Premier League football will be attractive enough to convince Adamu to join them.
Either way, a move will have to be made quickly if either club are serious about pulling off this signing.
Junior Adamu to solve West Ham attacking options
West Ham will certainly be in the market for at least one forward this summer.
The club are short on options for recognised strikers, with Michael Antonio scoring 13 times last season in 47 appearances.
Jarrod Bowen topped the list for scorers at West Ham last season. However, a number of rival clubs are now said to be interested in his signature.
The Hammers are reportedly prepared to offer Bowen a new contract which will make him the club’s top earner.
Either way, the club are in need of some new signings to bolster their attacking line.
Adamu may well help with this summer goal. The striker has time on his side, and has already proven to have a clinical touch in front of goal.
At just £12m, the youngster is well worth the risk. He would offer another good option at the London Stadium next season.
