West Ham have completed the deadline-day signing of Croatia international Nikola Vlasic for £25.7million.

The midfielder, who joins from CSKA Moscow for a fee that also features another £7.8m in add-ons, has signed a five-year deal with the Hammers holding an option for a further year.

Vlasic completed his medical in London before flying to join his Croatia team-mates ahead of Wednesday’s game against Russia.

Manager David Moyes has been keen to add to his attacking options this window with Michail Antonio his only senior striker and Jesse Lingard having returned to Manchester United following his loan spell last season.

There have been efforts to tempt Lingard back to the London Stadium but the 28-year-old, who has been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this international break, is insistent on staying at Old Trafford despite the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo further limiting his chances of game time.

Vlasic made 19 appearances during a turbulent spell with Everton after joining as a teenager and many around Goodison Park felt he was not given enough of a chance to impress.

The arrival of the 23-year-old takes West Ham’s summer spending above £50m following the £29.8m deal to bring France international Kurt Zouma in from Chelsea.

There have been attempts to add a striker to the squad this summer in order to provide competition and cover for Antonio, whose history of hamstring injuries is always a concern. However, Moyes has been adamant he will only spend money on the right addition and remains confident he can use Jarrod Bowen or Andriy Yarmolenko through the middle if necessary.

Moyes was today still exploring the possibility of adding one more signing on loan before tonight’s deadline. There had been talk of a late loan move for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek but sources indicated the finances were out of West Ham’s reach.

Young striker Mipo Odubeko last night signed a new contract until 2023 and joined Championship side Huddersfield Town on a season-long loan.
