West Ham are closing in on the signing of French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.

The Hammers are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a loan deal with an option to buy as David Moyes looks to provide competition for current No1 Lukas Fabianski.

Areola was part of the France squad that won the World Cup in 2018 but was not included in their squad for Euro 2020.

The 28-year-old is keen on a return to London after spending last year on loan at Fulham.

The Cottagers were relegated but Areola had an impressive season.

The Hammers had been keen on England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, but Moyes was put off that deal after West Brom set an asking price of more than £10million.

West Ham have also held talks over a move for Ukraine international Heorhiy Bushchan.

Areola is under contract in Paris until 2023 but has long been keen on a settled career in London having bought a home in the capital long before joining Fulham.

Fabianski has been a consistent performer under Moyes at West Ham and was named goalkeeper of the year at the London Football Awards last season. However, the Polish international was hampered by injury at times last season, which has become a concern.
