West Ham transfers: Moyes to plunder Bundesliga as club scouts pick out £30m Declan Rice replacement
West Ham are reportedly ready to raid the Bundesliga for Declan Rice’s permanent replacement as talk of a move to Arsenal continues to gather pace for the England midfielder.
The Gunners are well known to be leading the chase for the Hammers skipper, with Mikel Arteta’s men able to offer the regular Champions League football that Rice craves.
And while West Ham could end up banking anything between £70-100million, it will still leave a gaping hole in David Moyes’ midfield engine room.
Indeed, there are also major doubts over whether Tomas Soucek will also be at the club beyond the summer, with Rice’s midfielder partner yet to commit to a new contract at the London Stadium.
It’s thought that Moyes wanted to bolster his midfield options in January in preparation for Rice or Soucek, or potentially both, eventually leaving.
And while that did not happen, it appears that the Scot now has his eyes on a player who could help fill what would be a massive void.
Football Insider reports that Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow is being closely monitored by West Ham scouts ahead of a proposed summer switch.
The 26-year-old will soon be entering the final year of his contract in Germany and there are suggestions that he has no interest in renewing.
That means Frankfurt having to cash in on the defensive midfielder before he can walk away on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.
Sow well known to West Ham after EL heroics
West Ham are certainly familiar with Sow‘s work after he starred against them in the Europa League semi-finals last season, a competition Frankfurt went on to win.
Football Insider adds that Sow could also be available for a fee in the region of £30m including add-ons.
That sort of figure, assuming the Hammers recoup want they are demanding for Rice, would allow Moyes to strengthen several areas of a team that has struggled against relegation this season.
Southampton star James Ward-Prowse is another name on their wanted list. However, Tottenham and Newcastle are believed to be at the front of the queue for the England star, who will almost certainly quit St Mary’s if Saints are relegated.
As for the Hammers’ hopes of avoiding the drop, they are back in action on Sunday evening when they host Manchester United at the London Stadium.
