West Ham United will increase their offer to Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski in an effort to convince him to join the club, according to reports.

Things are sparking into life for West Ham for the summer transfer window. After already adding Nayef Aguerd and Flynn Downes, plus making Alphonse Areola’s move to the club permanent, they are announcing Gianluca Scamacca as their new centre-forward.

But Scamacca might not be the only signing they make from a Serie A club. Indeed, Zielinski is also on their radar and has been the subject of talks.

Recent claims in the Italian media indicated that the Poland international has not been particularly receptive to their advances so far. However, it appears West Ham are pushing to persuade him.

According to Calciomercato.it journalist Marco Giordano, the Hammers have been working on a new package to tempt Zielinski into making the transfer.

They are working on the basis of a salary in the region of €6m per season, which would equate to around £97,000 per week.

Giordano also added that the bid to Napoli will have to come to a figure between €38m and €40m when bonuses are included. In English money, that means he would cost between £32m and £33.6m.

The coming hours could be important in West Ham’s attempts to make progress for both the selling club and their asset.

Suggestions of their improving efforts have been backed up by ExWHUemployee, who wrote: “The club look set to make an increased offer for the Napoli midfielder Zielinski, a deal we exclusively broke on our podcast before anyone else.

“The club are very excited about this player and hope to get it over the line.”

Piotr Zielinski a deal worth working on

West Ham are clearly putting in a lot of work to ensure a squad that has qualified for Europe for two consecutive seasons remains competitive.

Zielinski would be an exciting signing if they can convince him to join and Napoli to sell. Now 28 years old, he has amassed more than 200 Serie A appearances across his career.

With experience in the Champions League and Europa League, he would bring good pedigree with him to the London Stadium.

And his traits on the pitch would fit in with what West Ham need. Another midfielder would be useful alongside Downes after they lost Mark Noble and Alex Kral from last season’s squad. Zielinski can also play as an attacking midfielder, making up for them missing out on Jesse Lingard, perhaps.

Hence, after Scamacca, Zielinski would be an exciting next source of attention.
