West Ham have turned their attention to Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca as David Moyes looks to bolster his attack in the summer transfer window.

Moyes is in the hunt to sign a new striker after failing to sign one in January. A host of names have been linked with the Hammers and Scamacca is the latest. The Sun report that West Ham are keen on the £25million-rated attacker.

The 23-year-old has been a revelation for Sassuolo this season. Indeed his 16 goals in 35 appearances have helped his club reach midtable in Serie A. He is also sitting in sixth in the topscorer standings.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen who has been linked with a £90million move is below him. It is no surprise then that clubs are keeping a close eye on Scamacca.

Competition will be fierce. Both Inter and AC Milan are keen to keep him in Italy. However if he fancies a switch to England, Newcastle and Arsenal have also been linked.

The Sun claim West Ham are also keen but will not get involved in a bidding war. The price is said to be £25million as things stand. But that could go up if the interest hots up.

If that does happen then the report says West Ham will switch targets to another Italian. Torino captain Andrea Belotti is also said to be a target.

Belotti has more experience and has notched over 100 Serie A goals in 232 appearances. He has been less prolific than Scamacca this season though. The 28-year-old has eight Serie A goals.

The beauty of Belotti is the fact he is available on a free transfer. There would be a price with signing-on fees and wages but it would still be a cheaper option. And arguably less of a gamble.

West Ham wise to not pay over the odds

The signing of Scamacca would be a gamble for the Hammers. He has had a great season for Sassuolo but there is a chance he could be a flash in the pan.

Before this season he has spent most of his time out on loan in Italy. Playing for the likes of Ascoli and Genoa but failing to hit double figures. That is not to say he cannot go on and fulfil his potential. He may flourish following a confidence-boosting season. And at 23 he has plenty of time on his side.

He stands at 6ft 4in and could also be the ideal target man. West Ham seem to be keen but they are wise in not wanting to pay anymore than £25million. Out of the two, a swoop for Belotti could make more sense.
