West Ham 3-2 Liverpool LIVE! Hammers hold on - Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

West Ham vs Liverpool LIVE!

West Ham continued their march up the Premier League table with a 3-2 victory over Liverpool.

The Reds had been hoping to extend their 25-match unbeaten run and close the gap at the top of the table to Chelsea.

But David Moyes’ side had other ideas, as a sensational second-half display saw them pull Liverpool apart on the counter-attack.

It leaves the Hammers third in the table, just three points behind Chelsea, and going into the international break full of confidence and dreaming of more success both domestically and in Europe this season.

The match was 1-1 at half-time, after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s wonderful free-kick cancelled out Alisson’s early own goal from a corner.

But Pablo Fornals and Kurt Zouma put the Hammers back in front, and Divock Origi’s late goal was not enough to earn Liverpool anything from the match as the hosts held on for the win.

International break now, for West Ham to enjoy a brilliant win and Liverpool to mull over their defeat.

The Hammers are back in action in two weeks time with a Saturday 3pm kick-off away to Wolves, while Liverpool host Arsenal later that day at Anfield.

David Moyes on second-half display

19:26 , Matt Verri

“In the second-half we sort of said: ‘Not good enough, let’s go back to basics and see if we can get after them a little bit more.’

“We did that. Last year we tried to do the same in the game that we lost here, and they just picked us off at times.

“We had to be a little bit more patient.”

David Moyes on Liverpool always being in the game

19:24 , Matt Verri

“It would be great if I could run down the touchline and slide on my knees, but obviously there’s another 60/70 minutes to go against Liverpool so you wouldn’t dare do that.

“Even when we went 3-1 up, I was thrilled but the opposition are so good.

“As they did, they got a goal back and we defended really well. They missed a great chance at the end.

“I think it might have been a bit unjust, because we had other chances to get another a goal.”

David Moyes on set-piece success

19:22 , Matt Verri

“We don’t do loads of work on it, we don’t.

“If you’ve got a good deliverer, and centre-halves who want to head it [that’s enough].

“We’ve been given Kurt a lot of stick, because he’s not been in the group with all the centre-halves getting a goal.

“So, I’m really glad he’s joined the party!”

Antonio on London Stadium atmosphere

19:11 , Matt Verri

“It’s unbelievable. This season now, with the fans back after the restart, it kind of reminds me of the Boleyn Ground.

“I signed in the last year when we had to leave, and the atmosphere this season, the charisma that is going on inside the stadium, in the changing room, the staff - everything to do with West Ham right now is unbelievable.

“The fans are just there, it feels like they’re on top of us. Even when things are not going right, they’re supporting us and they keep lifting us. It’s amazing.”

Delighted dressing room

Klopp on Cresswell tackle

19:05 , Matt Verri

“For me, Cresswell’s challenge on Hendo is a reckless challenge.

“You cannot go like this and you have to control your body. For me, it is reckless.”

Here’s a look at that incident....

Jurgen Klopp unhappy with first goal

19:03 , Matt Verri

“The first I think is a foul. I don’t know exactly what players have to do for it to be a foul against the goalie - the arm goes against Alisson’s arm.

“How can he catch the ball when somebody pulls his arm away? It makes really no sense.

“How can that happen, I just don’t know.

“I know people will say ‘he’s looking for excuses’, I’m not. I’m completely calm. I don’t think we are too good to lose football games. I accept that.

“In moments, you just need a normal decision from a ref. He didn’t do that.”

Bad day at the office for Alisson

18:50 , Matt Verri

Jamie Carragher is blunt is his assessment of the Liverpool goalkeeper’s performance:

“Alisson should have done better on all three goals.”

Zouma on tactics

18:47 , Matt Verri

Zouma believes his side’s plan worked perfectly... and considering the success West Ham had on the counter, you would say he is right.

“Tactically I think we were all spot on today. We knew Liverpool had to press high and leave space at the back.

“Obviously the way they play they’re very open, so as soon as they lose the ball we can go on the counter-attack.

“That was the plan. Obviously we wanted to play our game, and it worked out.”

Fornals wants the first goal

18:45 , Matt Verri

Kurt Zouma insist the first-goal, down as an own-goal, is Pablo Fornals’.

The midfielder is a bit more diplomatic himself...

“Obviously I think it’s logical. Alisson doesn’t want to kill himself, so...

“But, it doesn’t matter if it’s a Pablo Fornals goal, it’s a West Ham goal. 3-2, that’s the main thing.”

FT: WEST HAM 3-2 LIVERPOOL

18:30 , Matt Verri

WEST HAM HAVE DONE IT!

What a win for David Moyes’ side! They’re up to third in the table, and it was a sensational performance, particularly in the second-half.

Liverpool’s 25-match unbeaten run is over.

18:29 , Matt Verri

90+4 mins: Origi with the headed effort. COMFORTABLE SAVE.

West Ham are surely there now.

18:28 , Matt Verri

90+3 mins: Antonio in the corner... Antonio on the floor.

No foul though, and Liverpool can come forward again. Time for one last attack.

18:27 , Matt Verri

90+2 mins: Robertson with a good ball in, but it just bounces up and Minamino gives away the free-kick for a high boot.

Fabianski will be taking as long as possible over this. Another two minutes of added time to go...

18:26 , Matt Verri

90+1 mins: Salah or Alexander-Arnold?

It’s the right back... SO CLOSE FROM MANE!

Perfect ball in from Alexander-Arnold, right onto the head of Mane, but his effort is JUST wide of the far post.

18:25 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Henderson brings it forward, plays it inside to Minamino and it’s a free-kick for Liverpool.

It’s a really dangerous position. 25 yards out... Alexander-Arnold will be tempted, but the angle isn’t great for a right-footed player to have a shot.

FOUR ADDED MINUTES.

18:23 , Matt Verri

88 mins: Henderson and Robertson have a lapse in communication, and the ball runs out for a West Ham throw-in.

That will kill a few crucial seconds for the hosts. Two minutes plus added time for them to hold on.

18:20 , Matt Verri

85 mins: Liverpool really pushing now.

Thiago brings it forward, and tries to find the perfect pass but it runs straight out of play.

Masuaku on for the Hammers, in place of Benrahma. Moyes desperately trying to shut up shop.

GOAL! West Ham 3-2 Liverpool | Divock Origi 83'

18:18 , Matt Verri

WELL THEN!

Divock Origi has halved the deficit, and it comes from nothing.

The ball bounces up towards him, he brings it down, and on the swivel fires home a left-footed effort.

GAME. ON.

18:15 , Matt Verri

80 mins: Origi and Minamino are both on for Liverpool, with Fabinho and Jota off.

As it stands, West Ham are going third in the table, and just three points off league-leaders Chelsea.

18:14 , Matt Verri

79 mins: West Ham have been sensational in the second-half. So dangerous on the counter, Liverpool have not been able to deal with it.

Here’s how Fornals gave his side the lead back...

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

18:12 , Matt Verri

A superb second half from the Hammers. Liverpool, who have not lost in the League since March, have looked unable to deal with them for the last 10-15 minutes and the hosts have been rewarded. Some statement of intent in the race for the top four if they can hold onto this.

GOAL! West Ham 3-1 Liverpool | Kurt Zouma 74'

18:10 , Matt Verri

IT’S THREE FOR WEST HAM!

Liverpool just cannot defend corners. Three corners - two goals, and the other one saw West Ham hit the bar.

Bowen with the ball in, it’s deep to the far post, and Zouma rises highest to nod home. The London Stadium erupts!

18:09 , Matt Verri

73 mins: Fornals nearly scores again!!

Offside flag up now, wouldn’t have counted. Liverpool are being absolutely destroyed on the counter.

It’s Van Dijk single-handedly keeping his side in this... he blocks an Antonio shot, but West Ham have a corner.

18:06 , Matt Verri

71 mins: Thiago on for Oxlade-Chamberlain shortly after that goal.

West Ham back into the shape they had for most of the first-half, sitting really deep but nice and compact.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

18:04 , Matt Verri

What a superb goal from West Ham. Bowen has struggled so far today in terms of keeping hold of the ball but did so well to hold off three players and feed Fornals there.

GOAL! West Ham 2-1 Liverpool | Pablo Fornals 67'

18:03 , Matt Verri

WEST HAM BACK IN FRONT!

It’s a brilliant counter-attack. Bowen picks it up on the halfway line, Liverpool refuse to drop off, and the West Ham man slips it through to his teammate Fornals.

He runs through clean on goal, it’s not the cleanest of strikes, but it’s enough to beat Alisson. Goalkeeper probably should have saved it, but the home side don’t care one bit.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

17:59 , Matt Verri

West Ham are going for it much more in this first half and causing plenty of problems, Benrahma especially. Moyes wants more too - urging his players to push higher much faster when on the ball.

17:58 , Matt Verri

63 mins: That’s such an important interception from Zouma.

Salah had burst in from the right, leaving Cresswell behind him, but the West Ham centre-back stretches to cut out Jota’s attempted through ball.

17:56 , Matt Verri

61 mins: Not a bad ball in from Bowen, but it’s well cleared by Liverpool.

They try to break, but Zouma decides he has to make the foul. Maybe fortunate to avoid a yellow there.

17:55 , Matt Verri

60 mins: Rice goes down under a challenge from Jota, who breaks away with no foul given.

But the referee eventually changes his mind, and West Ham do get the free-kick.

Out on the right, this is a good chance to whip another dangerous ball into the Liverpool box.

17:52 , Matt Verri

57 mins: Mane gets the better of Johnson down the outside, and clips a ball into the box.

Salah has space for the first-time shot, it’s on his left foot... but it’s a pretty wild effort, well over the bar.

Dawson now limping, but doesn’t look too serious.

Yellow Card - Alexander-Arnold 55’

17:51 , Matt Verri

55 mins: That was not very subtle. Benrahma breaks into space on the halfway line, but Alexander-Arnold pulls his arm back and that will be a yellow card.

West Ham get the free-kick into the box, and Dawson wins the header again but it’s straight at Alisson.

17:47 , Matt Verri

52 mins: Lovely move from Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold pings it across to Robertson, who volleys it first time into the area.

Mane gets on the end of it, gets plenty on it, but it’s straight at Fabianski. Anywhere else and it was 2-1 Liverpool.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

17:46 , Matt Verri

Alexander-Arnold ended the first half with that fine free-kick but he’s having a tough time of it early in this second half. Benrahma is giving him plenty to think about and the England international has just nodded a free header straight at Antonio, after which the Hammers win a corner and hit the bar. Good start from the hosts.

17:45 , Matt Verri

50 mins: Liverpool are having real problems from corners.

Fornals again with a wonderful delivery, Alisson blocked off so he can’t come and do anything, and Dawson’s header hits the bar.

Very nearly two corners, two goals for the Hammers.

17:44 , Matt Verri

49 mins: Rice plays it out wide to Cresswell, who tries to whip it into the box.

Crowd think Henderson has blocked that with his arm.

Referee doesn’t... corner.

17:43 , Matt Verri

47 mins: West Ham with more possession in the opening minutes after the break than they did for much of the first-half.

Benrahma getting on the ball too, which David Moyes will be hoping to see more of.

Back underway

17:40 , Matt Verri

Henderson gets Liverpool up and running, and we’re underway agin.

Players back out

17:39 , Matt Verri

Klopp is back in the dugout, and he has a smile on his face. We’ll see if that’s still there in 45 minutes.

West Ham players now out too, very nearly ready for the second-half to begin.

Hammers need to offer more

17:34 , Matt Verri

West Ham had just one shot in the first-half, and that came late on in added time.

They’ll be disappointed to concede, but it will force them to attack a bit more and that could be to their benefit.

Antonio has looked dangerous the few times West Ham have played him into space, particularly on the right wing where the space left by Alexander-Arnold is there to be exploited.

Here’s how West Ham took the lead...

17:29 , Matt Verri

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

17:25 , Matt Verri

Sitting so deep for so long was always going to hurt West Ham against this Liverpool side. The late chances for Antonio and Bowen will offer some encouragement after the break.

HT: West Ham 1-1 Liverpool

17:24 , Matt Verri

Van Dijk with a brilliant challenge to stop Bowen from having a shot in the box, that was very nearly a big chance.

Soucek is then show a yellow card... game has been a really good watch since Liverpool equalised.

That’s half-time, and it’s level thanks to a wonderful free-kick from Alexander-Arnold.

(REUTERS)

17:21 , Matt Verri

45+5 mins: Liverpool corner, right at the end of the half.

It drops to Salah, and for once his touch with the left foot is not absolutely perfect.

17:19 , Matt Verri

45+2 mins: West Ham finally do launch a counter-attack, and it’s through Antonio.

He looks to be clean through on goal, but he’s almost too quick for his own good and gets the ball stuck under his feet. Really should have done better.

Hammers suddenly piling on the pressure late in the half.

Fabianski didn’t move

17:18 , Matt Verri

17:17 , Matt Verri

45 mins: Six minutes of time added on.

That is almost entirely down to Ogbonna going off, on, and off again.

17:16 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Liverpool pushing for another now, just before half-time.

West Ham need to get in level, and then Moyes will hope to bring something more in attack.

That early goal has meant the Hammers haven’t needed to attack, but they do now.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

17:14 , Matt Verri

That’s a superb free-kick from Alexander-Arnold but it felt like a Liverpool leveller was coming. West Ham have understandably been trying to protect what they had from that early goal but it’s a long time to play quite so deep.

GOAL! West Ham 1-1 Liverpool | Trent Alexander-Arnold 41'

17:12 , Matt Verri

STUNNING.

Five in the wall, Fornals lying behind them... doesn’t bother Trent Alexander-Arnold.

He whips it over the wall, into the top corner, and Fabianski can’t do a thing.

Liverpool level, and in some style.

17:11 , Matt Verri

39 mins: This could be Liverpool’s chance.

Salah’s feet are too quick for Rice, who trips the Egyptian up and it’s a free-kick for Liverpool.

About 20 yards out, and relatively central... half of the team seem to fancy this one.

17:09 , Matt Verri

37 mins: Dinked ball in from Mane, but Jota is already ahead of it and can’t stretch his neck back to get anything on it.

West Ham have not had a shot in the match so far, but they lead Liverpool!

17:07 , Matt Verri

35 mins: Alexander-Arnold with a volley from the edge of the box - 10/10 on the difficulty scale.

Looping ball, Fornals charging at him, and the ball almost head height as the right-back takes a swipe at it.

It floats over the bar.

17:04 , Matt Verri

33 mins: Soucek gives away a free-kick with a clumsy barge, and Alexander-Arnold will be looking to whip this into somewhere around the penalty spot.

West Ham head it away though, and quickly get back into their shape.

17:03 , Matt Verri

31 mins: Deeper and deeper West Ham drop, but they do so in such a well-organised shape that Liverpool cannot break them down.

That’s a chance though... Henderson with a good ball into the box, and Jota has a free header but he sends it over the bar.

17:00 , Matt Verri

28 mins: Big cheers from the home crowd as good pressing from West Ham forces Liverpool all the way back to Alisson.

Benrahma then leads a decent chance at a counter-attack, but his ball is just slightly behind Bowen, who loses his footing as he tries to control it.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

16:58 , Matt Verri

The early goal means West Ham know all they need to do now is defend. They’ve moved from their usual 4-2-3-1 to a three in midfield with Rice sitting behind Soucek and Fornals. You’d expect one way traffic for the most of this then.

16:56 , Matt Verri

25 mins: Fornals, Benrahma, and Bowen dropping really deep for West Ham, almost alongside Rice and Soucek at times.

Alexander-Arnold clips in a ball to the back post, and Johnson chests it behind for a corner with Mane lurking.

16:54 , Matt Verri

22 mins: It’s been an incredibly drawn out process, but Craig Dawson is now on for West Ham. Ogbonna off.

You’d expect Liverpool’s front-line to target the new man at the first opportunity.

16:52 , Matt Verri

20 mins: The West Ham defender really is in the wars early on here.

Just about recovered from that knee injury, and then moments later Diogo Jota catches him with an elbow and there is blood coming from around the eye of Ogbonna.

He’s heading straight down the tunnel, he may well need stitches.

Going to have about five minutes of ‘Ogbonna Time’ added at the end of this half.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

16:50 , Matt Verri

Very fortunate not to lose Ogbonna there. Dawson was ready to replace him and, while he’s done well at West Ham, he’s certainly not a match for Salah’s pace. Moyes will be hoping Ogbonna can stay on but he doesn’t look comfortable and now has a head injury.

16:50 , Matt Verri

18 mins: Ogbonna is indeed back on, much to the delight of the home fans.

West Ham understandably sitting off more now, Liverpool dominating possession but struggling to really get the likes of Salah and Mane into the game.

16:48 , Matt Verri

17 mins: Craig Dawson is preparing on the touchline, looks like Ogbonna may be forced off.

Immediately looked in pain as he fell to the ground. Limping a bit as he walks off with the physios, and it looks like he wants to continue.

Not sure the physios are as convinced...

16:46 , Matt Verri

14 mins: Henderson plays the ball over the top of the West Ham defence, and Salah is on to it.

He cuts inside of Ogbonna, but Cresswell is there to deal with the danger and clear.

Ogbonna is still down... looks like he may have twisted his knee as Salah turned him.

16:44 , Matt Verri

The Reds will have to come from behind if they’re to extend the 25-match unbeaten run they’re currently on in all competitions.

Alisson has ensured it’s going to be more difficult than they’d hoped...

 (Action Images via Reuters)
(Action Images via Reuters)

16:42 , Matt Verri

10 mins: Liverpool still yet to fully settle in the match, West Ham first to everything so far.

They’re still trying to get up the pitch, don’t want to just sit back and encourage the pressure.

16:40 , Matt Verri

8 mins: Is Cresswell in trouble here?

It’s a strong challenge on Henderson, but in doing so he has caught the Liverpool captain quite high with a bit of a swipe in the follow through.

VAR looking... but nothing given. Cresswell will be mightily relieved.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

16:39 , Matt Verri

What a start from West Ham. They’ve been set piece specialists under Moyes but that rather takes it to a new level. They’ve lost two of their three games after European nights so far this season but could not have asked for a better start.

16:38 , Matt Verri

6 mins: Goal is given!

Really weak goalkeeping, and Liverpool have paid the price.

West Ham straight back on the attack, brilliant start from the hosts.

GOAL! West Ham 1-0 Liverpool | Alisson (OG) 4'

16:36 , Matt Verri

WOW!

Alisson makes a complete mess of the corner as it comes out, swipes at thin air, and the ball deflects off his glove and dribbles into the back of the net.

VAR checking it...

16:35 , Matt Verri

3 mins: Antonio peels off onto the right wing, taking advantage of the space left by Alexander-Arnold.

He is met by Van Dijk though, and the Liverpool man blocks the cross behind for a corner.

Jack Rosser at the London Stadium

16:34 , Matt Verri

It will be interesting to see how Moyes approaches this. He’s made a real change to his side’s approach in these big games so far this season, playing far more on the front foot than previously - but Liverpool are the most dangerous side they’ve faced so far. Go too attacking and they’ll cut them apart.

16:33 , Matt Verri

2 mins: Liverpool dangerous right from the off, with Robertson getting up the pitch ont he overlap.

Mane slides it to him, but the Scotsman’s cross is hacked away.

We’re underway

16:31 , Matt Verri

Kick-off at the London Stadium!

Can David Moyes’ impressive side rise to the challenge this evening?

Players out onto the pitch

16:26 , Matt Verri

Bubbles blowing, crowd singing, and players are out onto the pitch.

Kick-off just minutes away.

Salah to get back in the goals?

16:24 , Matt Verri

Mo Salah has had a ridiculous season so far, with 10 Premier League goals already to his name.

He didn’t score last time out though, in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Brighton.

That was the first time he didn’t score in a league game since August 21. AUGUST.

Warm-ups nearly finished

Evening Standard prediction: West Ham 2-2 Liverpool

15:53 , Marc Mayo

Liverpool haven’t exactly proven to be watertight defensively this season and, away at West Ham, will surely encounter some difficulty given their varied attacking line.

Still, Jurgen Klopp’s attacking line is a fierce one and, even without Firmino, have the quality to hurt any team on the planet.

2-2 draw.

15:46 , Marc Mayo

15:37 , Marc Mayo

Unchanged then for the Hammers, with Ben Johnson preferred at right-back despite Vladimir Coufal’s return to fitness.

Jurgen Klopp prefers Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Thiago Alcantara in midfield, with Joel Matip starting ahead of Ibrahima Konate at centre-back.

Early team news

15:25 , Marc Mayo

David Moyes said his West Ham squad is being tested due to their packed schedule but insists that he has confidence in the depth available this season.

The Hammers are still fighting on three fronts, sitting fourth in the Premier League having also knocked both Manchester clubs out of the Carabao Cup and qualified from their group in the Europa League.

As it stands, Andriy Yarmolenko and Nikola Vlasic are doubts.

For Liverpool, Roberto Firmino, Joe Gomez and Curtis Jones are injured.
