Newcastle United travel to West Ham United on the opening day of the Premier League season.

The two clubs finished in the bottom half last year, the Magpies 13th and three places higher than their hosts, though it was the Hammers who finished the campaign in better form.

With such little time between the end of 2019/20 and the start of 20/21, David Moyes and his side will hope that form continues somewhat into the new season.

Despite Newcastle’s takeover falling through, there is some optimism among the fanbase after a quickfire quartet of signings, including Jamal Lewis and Callum Wilson.

Prediction

The Hammers don’t have any new faces, but Moyes seemed to find the right balance toward the end of the season and if the players are still sharp, they’ll be tough to break down. Goals could remain a source of concern though and it’s the same with Newcastle - it’s too much to expect Wilson to immediately be firing on all cylinders after a wretched campaign with Bournemouth.
