Pablo Fornals has backed West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen to force his way into the England squad.

Bowen scored his first goal of the season against Brentford on Sunday before the Bees snatched a late winner through Yoane Wissa.

The 24-year-old is on Gareth Southgate’s radar and was put on standby for the England squad in September, though there is fierce competition in his position.

But Fornals, who has earned a place in the last two Spain squads, believes Bowen deserves a call-up after his impressive start to the season for West Ham.

“Jarrod is trying to score every game and is playing a massive part for West Ham,” said Fornals.

“Why not soon England can make a call for him? He deserves it just the same, or more, than [some of the] players who are going.“I think if he keeps playing at this level, 100 per cent he will get his chance.”

West Ham were well off the pace in the first half against Brentford but battled their way back into the contest in the second half before the Bees scored late to win 2-1.

The Hammers’ two defeats this season, against Brentford and Manchester United, have come through goals in the dying minutes of the game, something Fornals feels shows their quality.

“We lost against Manchester United in a game where we could have kept at least one point and here the same,” said the midfielder.

“We are a difficult team to beat and this is going to bring us a lot of points this season. Last week we took the points late ourselves.“We make it a hard game to win against us and I think this is why we are where we are.”
