Alan Shearer has made a bold prediction for the new Premier League season - backing Newcastle to break back into the top four.

He also reckons Arsenal is set to end its long wait for a Premier League crown, suggesting Mikel Arteta's players will topple Manchester City's recent dominance and win their first title since the legendary Invincibles in 2004.

Shearer sees Pep Guardiola's City, who has just sold Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid and will miss Oscar Bobb due to a fractured leg, finishing as runner-up this time around. Liverpool, now steered by Arne Slot, is tipped by Shearer to grab third - as the new season gets underway on Friday with Manchester United taking on Fulham.

Chatting with Betfair, Shearer shared his insights, noting that Newcastle's break from European soccer might give them an edge in chasing a Champions League spot, as per the Express.

"I think Liverpool will finish in the top four again," said Shearer." I'd be hopeful of Newcastle because they haven't got European football to contend with this year so in terms of injuries and squad availability, that should help them. If they can get a free run then I'd be hopeful that Newcastle could finish fourth."

On Liverpool, Shearer added: "Liverpool haven't signed anyone yet but from what I've seen throughout pre-season, it'll be difficult for Slot to go in there after Jurgen Klopp and what he did for Liverpool, but it is interesting to see the energy he looks to play with.

‌"Having said that, they've got the balance of a really good team already and with a couple of additions, I think Arne Slot will deliver Champions League football."
