Why Olivia Rodrigo is at Old Trafford for Chelsea's clash with Man United
Musician Olivia Rodrigo is at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon supporting Chelsea as they take on Manchester United in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old pop megastar, famous for her singles Good 4 U, Vampire and Drivers License, declared her support for the Blues in August 2023 when she attended her first ever football match. She was at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea's clash with Liverpool which ended in a 1-1 draw as Luis Diaz's opener was cancelled out by Axel Disasi.
After the match, Rodrigo went pitchside to meet defender Ben Chilwell who presented her with a shirt. Afterward, on social media, Rodrigo told her 38.2m Instagram followers: "Hey, my name’s Olivia Rodrigo and today I am at the Bridge for my very first football game.
"I had the best time and I’m so happy that I got to come." Chilwell then shared on social media that he was happy to hear that Rodrigo was now a Chelsea fan while the club's official account added: "New Chelsea fan unlocked: Olivia Rodrigo," and, "Olivia Rodrigo is a Blue!"
As for why Rodrigo chose this match to watch her club is not quite as clear. Her boyfriend Louis Partridge has spent plenty of time in Manchester recently having filmed his Netflix series House of Guinness in Stockport.
In July, Rodrigo and Partridge were spotted in Ancoats shopping and potentially their love for Manchester could be why they are in the city today. Rodrigo will be returning to Manchester next year when her tour reaches Manchester's Co-Op Live Arena.
