Widnes Vikings have announced the signing of Callum Field on a season-long loan from Featherstone.

The Vikings will have the forward for the remainder of the 2022 Championship season, with no call-back option for Rovers.

Field, 24, began his career with Wigan, making his debut in 2017. He spent time on loan at Swinton, London Skolars and Dewsbury.

The forward represented England at youth level, touring Australia in 2016 with Owen Farnworth, as well as ex-Vikings Danny Walker, Brad Walker and Liam Walsh.

He joined Featherstone ahead of the 2021 season after a short spell with Leigh in 2020. He has made eight appearances so far this season.

Field was a part of the winning 2021 1895 Cup side for Featherstone, featuring from the bench at Wembley.

Two new faces for Widnes Vikings

Josh Johnson has also joined Widnes on a deal until the end of 2023 from Salford. The deal has seen forward Tyler Dupree join the Red Devils in a swap.

Johnson, 27, has made 146 appearances in his career so far in both Super League and Championship.

The pair could make their debuts this weekend against Whitehaven.

Widnes remain without a permanent head coach following the departure of Simon Finnigan. They currently sit ninth in the league table, claiming four wins from 10. Most recently, they fell to a heavy 74-6 defeat away at Featherstone.

Currently, skipper Jack Owens remains sidelined due to injury. The full-back had been ruled out for two months earlier in April.

Likewise, stand-off Danny Craven continues to recover. He was injured in the Vikings’ 9-8 win at Halifax, though he stayed on to complete the game. He had been hoping to return before the end of April, but has suffered a setback and is expected to be out for another six weeks.
