Wilder vs Fury 2: Eddie Hearn predicts Deontay Wilder vs Luis Ortiz 2 is off and Tyson Fury rematch will happen next instead

Eddie Hearn believes Deontay Wilder‘s proposed rematch with Luis Ortiz will be scrapped in favour of a a second bout against Tyson Fury instead.

The WBC world heavyweight champion dispatched Dominic Breazeale last month in a round to defend his belt and remain unbeaten.

The American then announced his intention to fight the Cuban once again, before a rematch with Fury following their draw last December.

Yet after Fury’s comfortable win over Tom Schwarz, Hearn insists he could see Wilder going straight for the Brit.

“I don’t believe Wilder will fight Ortiz. I think he’ll fight Fury next,” Hearn told Boxing Social.

“I think that’s what they’ll do, and the winner will have to fight Dillian Whyte. That’s how I see it going. I don’t think Wilder now will take the risk of Luis Ortiz, which is very bad on Luis Ortiz considering they made him turn down the Joshua fight.

“I think they’ll go straight into that fight at the end of the year and the winner will have to fight Dillian Whyte.”

Hearn also bemoaned Whyte’s situation, having been ranked No 1 for more than 600 day with the WBC without receiving a shot at the champion.

“I believe it (the fight vs Rivas) will be for the interim title and a final eliminator for the mandatory position, it’s just a case of boxing off when that will be,” Hearn added.

“It’s 600 days this week since Dillian Whyte’s been WBC number one so we don’t want to wait too much longer, but July 20 will be a very important fight for his career because if he wins that fight he will get a shot at the WBC world title.”
