The Englishman kicked 14 points to help his side consolidate third place in the French top flight.
Tensions were high ahead of the game after the now-infamous clash back in September between Toulon back-row Olivier Missoup and Montpellier counterpart Remy Martin.
Missoup was handed a four-month suspension for his part in the altercation but he was back to face Martin in this match, prompting Toulon chairman Mourad Boudjellal to appeal for calm before kick-off.
It was Wilkinson who stole the limelight though as he converted a penalty try in the 71st minute to add to his four other penalties.
The result sees Toulon move eight points clear of Castres in fourth place as the race for play-off spots heats up.
