Wojtek Wolski stretchered off in KHL after scary crash into boards (Video)

Former NHL forward Wojtek Wolski was injured on Thursday after he crashed headfirst into the boards while diving for a loose puck.

Playing for defending KHL champions Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Wolski chased the puck toward the sideboards while on a power play and up 3-1 in the third period. As he dove, he collided with Vladimir Markelov of Barys.

Metallurg head coach Ilya Vorobyov said afterward that Wolski is being examined for a possible concussion. Hopefully if it’s anything, it’s solely that and no other damage was suffered.

Wojtek, who has played in the KHL since the 2013-14 season, suited up for 451 games in the NHL with the Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers, Phoenix Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche.

UPDATE: According to Metallurg, Wolski suffered a “fracture of the seventh and fourth cervical vertebrae injury of the cervical spinal cord, brain concussion, bruises and abrasions on the face.” He’s currently in intensive care and will likely miss the rest of the 2016-17 season.
