Wolves and Brentford have both contacted the agent of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Sebastian Rode about a transfer, a report has claimed.

The Premier League duo are looking towards the summer window to bolster their squads. Wolves showed solid form in the early stages of Bruno Lage’s reign but are now trying to address an alarming slide.

Brentford, meanwhile, have survived their first season in the top-flight. Despite relegation fears, they could finish the season with three successive wins.

However, the task will be to maintain and push themselves on next season.

According to Bild, Wolves and Brentford are eyeing up Frankfurt midfielder Rode and have contacted his agent. The 31-year-old has impressively led the Bundesliga side through to the Europa League final against Rangers on Wednesday.

In fact, Rode has featured in nine of Frankfurt’s 12 games in the competition. He was the captain for quarter-final second leg win over Barcelona and for both semi-final ties against West Ham.

He remained on the bench for one group game and missed the other two because of a knee injury.

Indeed, should Wolves and Brentford go after Rode, they would have to take into account his injury record.

The German midfielder has only played 17 Bundesliga games this term and has had five separate spells out of the team this campaign.

That pattern is a feature of his earlier career and when he was at Borussia Dortmund, he missed most of the 2017/18 campaign.

While both Wolves and Brentford have approached Rode’s advisor, the player and agents’ responses remain unclear. They will wait until the summer to address their situation.

However, Bild adds that Frankfurt are looking to move Rode on because of his record with knee injuries. His contract runs out in the summer of 2024.

Rode has shown Premier League capability

The fact that Rode has captained Frankfurt in the later stages of the Europa League shows his leadership skills – in big games to boot.

He would therefore be a strong voice in the dressing room of either Wolves or Brentford.

He has also played in both central and defensive midfield roles and has the adaptability to play both well.

However, at 31 and due to his injury record, it may take him a while to get up to speed with the intensity of Premier League football.

Wolves, for their part, are very much in the market for new midfield additions. They are strongly being linked with Joao Palhinha, with the player likely to cost around £25m.

Meanwhile, Ruben Neves continues to be linked with moves away, amid talk that Barcelona may soon launch a move.
