The Portugal national team has handed Wolves' prodigy Fabio Silva his first senior call-up, an unexpected twist in the player's career.

Currently on loan at Las Palmas from Wolves, Silva is set to be part of the squad for their upcoming Nations League game against Croatia.

Despite a fluctuating stint at Glasgow Rangers while on loan last season, the 22 year old striker, who commanded a hefty £35m transfer fee from Porto in 2020, has found the net three times this season at the Spanish club.

Previously with the Portugal U21s, Silva has now been promoted to the senior squad by coach Roberto Martinez, following the decision to rest Chelsea's ex-Wolves star Pedro Neto, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva, as Portugal secures its spot in the Nations League knockouts.

“We followed Fabio for months. He has very good movements, the ability to open spaces and play with his back to goal,” said Belgium boss Martinez.

“Arriving at a new club gave him a greater impact in the area and his numbers have improved a lot. He is a different player.”
