Wolves have joined West Ham and Crystal Palace in the race to sign a top Middlesbrough youngster, who is coming on leaps and bounds under Michael Carrick.

Isaiah Jones has emerged as one of Boro’s most prized assets in recent seasons and ended up with the most assists last season, laying on nine goals for his teammates.

Jones mostly played as a wing-back last season but has been converted to a right-sided midfielder under Carrick.

The 23-year-old emerged on the radar of Tottenham after impressing against the London side in the FA Cup last season.

However, Spurs ended up signing former Boro loanee Djed Spence instead. And while that deal has not worked out so far, Antonio Conte has now switched his attention to more experienced players to fill the right wing-back role.

That leaves the door open to the likes of Wolves, West Ham and Palace.

New Molineux chief Julen Lopetegui is expected to be backed in the January market as he looks to guide the bottom-placed club away from the relegation zone.

Boro looking to keep top talent

But TEAMtalk’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey claims Boro are not in the mood to cash in on Jones.

Bailey said: “No Middlesbrough player has benefited more from Michael Carrick’s appointment than Isaiah Jones.

“Carrick has switched him to right midfield from right back. And I am told that he is impressing a lot of clubs.

“He was already on the radar of the likes of Crystal Palace and West Ham. But now others are keen too including the likes of Wolves, Leicester and Southampton. But they can forget about a January raid.

“Boro’s play-off hopes have been reignited and Carrick is going to be backed. Which means they won’t be selling one of their prized assets.”
