Wolves are reportedly optimistic they can soon seal the signing of Boubacar Traore after the Molineux men offered Metz two ways in which the deal can go through.

It’s been a frustrating summer so far for Bruno Lage, with only two signings getting over the line for Wolves. That has seen both Nathan Collins, who debuted at Leeds, and Goncalo Guedes sign on the dotted line. But Lage is also desperate to strengthen his midfield options with the club looking bereft of options off the bench at Elland Road.

To that end, the Wolves boss is hot on the trail of Metz midfielder Traore. The 20-year-old midfielder enjoyed a breakout season for the club last season, appearing 27 times in Ligue 1. However, while he impressed on a personal level, the season did not go to plan for the club as they suffered relegation to Ligue 2.

As such, they are likely to sell their best players to make up that financial shortfall, with Traore a man in demand. To that end, a report last week suggested Newcastle and Leicester were hot on his trail.

However, according to Republicain-Lorrain, it is Wolves who now lead that chase.

Lage’s side have reportedly presented two transfer options to Metz for Traore. Their first proposal would see Wolves pay £5m (€6m) to sign him on loan for the season, with an option to buy for £6.7m (€8m) next summer.

Their second offer would give Metz more of a guranteed fee, though would see them wait for the money. As such, that is reportedly a loan deal now with an obligation to buy next summer for £8.4m (€10m).

Metz can make more from the first offer but are understood to be considering which proposal suits them best.

Growing optimism Wolves can secure Boubacar Traore signing

However, there appears a growing optimism that Wolves can get the deal done.

Despite initial interest from Leicester and Newcastle, Wolves’ is the only concrete offer on the table.

As such, there is a growing belief around the club that one of their proposals will be accepted.

The news will come as welcome relief to Lage, who wants a new face in his midfield.

Joao Moutinho missed the match at Elland Road on Saturday through injury. And with Ruben Neves and Leander Dendoncker starting, the visitors had nothing in reserve.

His signing then will be a welcome addition to the Wolves ranks.

A tenacious and physical midfielder, Boubacar Traore has the attributes to be a success in the Premier League. At just 20-year-old, he is a player too who can get better training and playing alongside the likes of Neves.

With additions made in attack and defence, a new midfielder is certainly key now for Lage.

The Wolves boss may also yet try to add another attacker. To that end, the club has reportedly seen a £10million bid for Strasbourg striker Ludovic Ajorque rejected, with the French club holding out for £18m.

Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz is also another option reportedly being considered by Wolves.
