Wolverhampton Wanderers target Andre Almeida is reportedly close to securing a move away from Portuguese outfit Vitoria Guimaraes.

Almeida has impressed during his short career so far. The 22-year-old made 31 league appearances last season as a midfielder, and has already shown fans the raw talent he clearly possesses. Now, he looks set for his first move away from his current club in his professional career.

According to Jornal de Noticias, Wolves continue to be linked with a move for the youngster. With just 12 months remaining on his contract, Vitoria Guimaraes may be forced to cash in on their star now.

His current contract holds a €50m release clause. The club also hold the option to add an extra year to the current contract.

However, Alemida was omitted from the club’s captains list, suggesting they may be preparing for life without him.

Now, it has been reported by A Bola that the club could be prepared to listen to offers for their man.

It is believed Vitoria are looking for around £8.5m for his services – significantly lower than the release clause.

Wolves should be able to afford this fee, and given his youthful age the investment could be worthwhile.

However, the West Midlands outfit still face competition for his signature. FC Porto have also been linked with a move. And given his current life in Portugal this may be the preferred option.

Porto were crowned champions of Liga Portugal last season, and will be competing in next season’s Champions League. This could prove a further factor in convincing Almedia to stay in Portugal rather than make the switch to the Premier League.

Many Wolves fans are desperate for the club to recruit in midfield this season. They currently have at their disposal Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, and Leander Dendoncker.

While these are all reliable options, there has not been a reshuffle to the midfield options for a couple seasons now.

There is a feeling around the club that new options must be added to the roster if they want to compete for a European spot. The club finished 10th last season, but were just five points off a Europa Conference League spot.

Wolves have currently made just one signing this summer, as they made the signing of Hwang Hee-chan permanent for £15.3m from RB Leipzig.
