Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale's future in North London is completely up in the air as we enter the final days of the transfer window.

When David Raya arrived on loan from Brentford last summer, Mikel Arteta insisted that he had two No.1s at the Emirates Stadium now. However, it became apparent that Raya had usurped Ramsdale as the club's first-choice and that left the England international with a dilemma.

Ramsdale was called up for the national team's European Championships campaign where he admitted in the build-up he had endured a 'difficult season'. The consensus this summer has been that he would look for a move elsewhere but so far nothing official has been confirmed.

With transfer deadline day on the horizon, football.london has taken a look at the latest surrounding Ramsdale's future.

Wolves U-turn

Unfortunately for Ramsdale, his most likely move to Wolverhampton Wanderers appears to have fallen through at the last moment. According to BBC Sport, the West Midlands club see the transfer as too expensive and as such any further negotiations have ended.

It is believed a loan with the option to buy for £20m was proposed by Wolves but this deal was seen as unsatisfactory by the Gunners. Gary O'Neil's side are deemed 'highly unlikely' to revitalise a move for the shot-stopper.

Arteta's desire

While a move to Molineux appears to have fallen through, The Athletic understands Ramsdale remains available for transfer this summer with the deadline approaching. The understanding at the Emirates Stadium is that Arteta will need to work quickly in the remainder of the window to bring in a quick replacement for Ramsdale if a deal is found for him.

Arsenal are also thought to be wanting to sign a third-choice homegrown goalkeeper to fill out their team.

Replacement identified

The report continues that Ramsdale's replacement has already been identified. Espanyol's Joan Garcia is thought to have caught the eye of Arsenal.

Garcia is only 23 so could be seen as the future No.1 when Raya's career at the top starts to wind down.

Who wants Ramsdale?

A West Midlands switch may be off but Sky Sports understands that two other Premier League clubs could be interested in his services. Both Southampton and AFC Bournemouth are believed to be keen on the goalkeeper but they are likely to face the same issues as Wolves in trying to agree a deal.

The Cherries could appeal to Ramsdale having made 37 appearances previously for the South Coast club. He left them in August 2020 to rejoin Sheffield United when the Blades returned to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Ajax are not thought to be out of the picture either so there are options on the table for the goalkeeper.
