Woman undergoes fabulous drag makeover to honor her grandmotherās love of flamenco
In this episode of In The Knowās Dragged, Marti Gould Cummings and Jasmine Rice LaBeija unleash Juliaās inner-drag queen.
When it comes to coming up with a name, Julia feels inspired by her grandmother Maryās love of flamenco. Flamenco is a form of song and dance thatās popular in Spain.
āIām mixed. Iām Latina and Jewish,ā Julia explained. āOne of my favorite family memories is my abuelitaās flamenco dress. It was really gorgeous and traditional and I want to honor her by revamping it.ā
Jasmine and Marti then asked Julia how she envisioned the drag version of herself.
āI want to be fierce,ā Julia said. āIām picturing, like, a very long dress, like something I can twirl around.ā
Julia cleverly came up with Kai Ann Pepper for her stage name, which the hosts loved.
āSheās spicy! Sheās hot,ā Marti said. āSheās gonna take the stage by storm.ā
After undergoing hours of makeup, Julia was stunned when she saw herself in the mirror.
āFirst of all, who put my grandmaās lips on me? Because mine do not look like this,ā Julia joked.
When Jasmine asked if she had ever worn this much makeup before, Juliaās answer was simple: āNo.ā
When it came time to pick Kai Ann Pepperās debut outfit, the hosts chose a fiery orange dress, red pumps and big, voluminous hair like Jasmineās.
āI feel great,ā Julia ā ahem, Kai Ann Pepper ā said. āI canāt wait to dance in it.ā
The transformation is complete. Kai Ann Pepper rocked a long, flowing orange dress with a lacy, bohemian ruffled top. Her legs peaked out of its two large side-slits. Fierceness achieved.
āSheās going to be so happy and surprised,ā Julia said about her grandmother. āIt was always really important to her that I knew where I came from. So sheās going to be really happy.ā
