Roy Keane has heaped praise on Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The Manchester United legend worked with Kelleher during his time with the Republic of Ireland's coaching set-up..

The shot-stopper has enjoyed a good run of form, having filled in for the injured Alisson at Liverpool. Kelleher's club form has transferred into international football, after making several important stops before saving a penalty and the follow up as Ireland secured a 1-0 Nations League win over Finland on Thursday.

However, the Irishman faces an uncertain future on Merseyside amid rumours that he could be leaving Anfield this summer to become a guaranteed number one. Liverpool have rubber-stamped a transfer for a new goalkeeper in Giorgi Mamardashvili, although the Georgian international is currently still with Valencia and will not officially become part of Slot's squad until next summer.

And Keane has offered a glowing review of his compatriot: "Caoimhín is getting regular games. I was working with Martin [O'Neill] when we brought him in [to the Ireland set-up]. We liked him straight away from the first session," he told ITV Sport.

"We had Seamus McDonagh saying 'we like everything about him. He makes the other keepers look lazy'. Seamus said he had a great temperament.

"When you play for the big clubs and play in big games - he's made one or two mistakes but he takes it in his stride. He's getting the run of games now at Liverpool and I think he's got a great chance. I like everything about him and the big bonus is he's from Cork!"

When asked about his performances at Wembley with Liverpool, Keane added, "That's what his temperament gets him in the big games."
