Brazil put on a polished display at the Estadio Nacional in their 100th World Cup performance to beat Cameroon 4-1 and top Group A.

Neymar knocked in the 100th goal of this exciting World Cup to deservedly put Brazil ahead but Joel Matip silenced the crowd with a well taken equaliser before the half hour.

But a brilliant Neymar second, a first World Cup goal from Fred and one for substitute Fernandinho put the result beyond doubt and booked a second round showdown with Chile.

The hosts looked like a team in the mood to put on a show and created numerous early chances before Neymar put them ahead in the 17th minute after guiding in Luiz Gustavo’s excellent cross. But Cameroon shocked the majority of pro-Brazil fans less than ten minutes later as Matip tapped home Allan Nyom’s cross moments after he had hit the bar.

A brilliant individual second from Neymar helped calm home nerves before Fred tapped home David Luiz’s cross. And Fernandinho made sure in the dying minutes from Oscar’s excellent lay-off.

PRE-MATCH: Hulk returns after missing the Mexico match through injury. Fred and Paulinho also start despite pressure from Bernard and Willian. Samuel Eto’o misses out on a starting place and Alex Song is suspended.

2’ – BIG CHANCE PAULINHO: Hulk pulls the ball back to him in the box but his shot is cleared on the line.

16’ – GOAL BRAZIL: It’s a great tackle and cross by Luiz Gustavo and Neymar opens his body up beautifully to guide it into the corner with his right foot.

19’ – NEYMAR SHOT: Itandje does well to parry away a fierce drive from the Brazilian’s left boot.

24’ – MATIP HITS BAR: Silva almost deflects Enoh’s ball into his own net and from the resultant corner, Matip heads onto the bar.

25’ – CAMEROON GOAL: This time Matip doesn’t miss from Nyom’s great run and cross.

34’ – GOAL BRAZIL: Neymar scores the 100th goal of the tournament. He runs at the Cameroon defence, cuts inside onto his right foot and sends Itandje the wrong way.

45+1’ – CHANCE BRAZIL: It’s a lovely interchange between Oscar, Neymar and finally Hulk but Matic nips in to block his shot.

49' – GOAL BRAZIL: Fred looks slightly offside as he converts David Luiz’s cross for his first World Cup goal.

83’ – GOAL BRAZIL: Oscar lays off to Fernandinho who tucks home into the far corner.

Brazil still shaky at the back? Good as they were going forward, Cameroon did catch the hosts out a number of times with simple balls over the top. Scolari with work to do in defence.
