A 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nigeria, sealed by Peter Odemwingie’s goal, left Bosnia and Herzegovina without a point from their opening two games and brought their first ever World Cup to an abrupt end.

However, the result was tinged with controversy as Dzeko was denied a perfectly good goal with the scores at 0-0 when he was incorrectly ruled offside in Cuiaba.

Furthermore, Bosnia and Herzegovina captain Emir Spahic appeared to be fouled by Nigeria’s Emmanuel Emenike just before Odemwingie scored the only goal of the game.

“The referee was shameful,” said a furious Dzeko. “We are going home and we are sad because of that but this referee should be going home too.

“He changed the result and he changed the game. That’s why we lost.

“It was obviously a foul on our captain. And before when I scored the goal, it was never offside. We fought till the end but we didn’t have luck today.”
