Smalling has not played for the Three Lions since last February's game against the Netherlands because of injury.

Also back in the 24-man squad is Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole, who will likely win his 100th cap after missing the Sweden match in November through injury.

Everton winger Leon Osman retains his place following his debut in Stockholm while there are only two goalkeepers selected - Chelsea and Stoke target Jack Butland and Manchester City's Joe Hart - as Norwich City's John Ruddy and Celtic's Fraser Forster are injured.

The match at Wembley - a warm-up for next month's World Cup qualifiers in San Marino and Montenegro - is the first of the FA's 150th anniversary year, with friendlies against neighbours Republic Of Ireland and Scotland following in May and August respectively.
