Prandelli is set to announce a selection of around 35 players next week to take part in two days of physical tests at Coverciano, in preparation for the summer tournament in Brazil.
From that selection, Prandelli will eventually name his 23-man squad for the World Cup and the Corriere dello Sport report that aside from Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Pirlo, no-one over the age of 35 will get a look-in.
Speculation is that Parma’s Cassano will in all probability make that initial squad at least and will be next oldest in the group alongside Thiago Motta and Alberto Gilardino.
Mattia Destro and Ciro Immobile are speculated as in contention to feature in the April tests at least, whilst Giuseppe Rossi’s possible return by May would see him make the final squad and it would be ahead of Cassano.
