Luccin, 33, was a free agent after leaving Swiss side Lausanne in April. Dallas did not disclose the terms of the deal.

“Peter came in at the end of the season to be seen by the FC Dallas coaching staff,” coach Schellas Hyndman said. “We were in the final two weeks of training, so he was being measured against a group of players who were very fit.

“He really impressed us. He can cover a lot of space in central midfield and he seldom loses the ball.”

The well-travelled Luccin started his career at Cannes in his native France, where he also had spells at Bordeaux, Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain.

In 2001 he moved to Spain with Celta Vigo, before turning out for Real Zaragoza, Racing Santander and – most famously – Atletico Madrid, where he spent three seasons, making over 100 appearances.

“His resume is quite outstanding, having played quite a few years in the first divisions in France and Spain,” Hyndman added.

“He is going to be a very good addition to our team.”
