Auger-Aliassime produced a near-flawless display to beat Alcaraz 6-3 6-2 and stay on course for a third straight title after recent tournament wins in Florence and Antwerp. The Canadian, undefeated in his last 12 matches, could climb up to sixth in the ATP rankings if he beats Danish teenager Holger Rune in Sunday's final. "So far it has been very close to perfect", said Auger-Aliassime. "There's still one match to go, but it's been a fantastic week, played some great tennis, and again today against the best player in the world. It's an amazing win, so I'm really happy with my level and hopefully I can go all the way."

With the win, the Canadian extended his winning streak to 12 matche.

"It's amazing," he added. "I never expected it, when I was in Florence three weeks ago, or after the US Open. I'm just really happy that all my work is coming together.

"I've always believed that I can play this way, that I can be consistent in that way, but one thing is to believe and the other is to actually do it. It's nice to feel that way, it's nice to come out on the court and win that many matches in a row… So hopefully this is just the beginning of seeing me play this way." Unseeded Rune, 19, defeated Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6 (1) 7-6 (6) and will rise to 16th in the rankings if he halts Auger-Aliassime's winning run. Former world number one Daniil Medvedev sealed his place at the Nitto ATP Finals for the fourth successive year after beating Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 6-2 to reach the Erste Bank Open final in Vienna. Top seed Medvedev will play Denis Shapovalov on Sunday after the Canadian overcame Croatia's Borna Coric 7-6 (4) 6-0. Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic have already qualified for the ATP Finals, with the season finale to be played in Turin from November 13-20.
