The Power, who was looking to make amends for his poor display in February's World Seniors Championship, produced a 4-0 whitewash of former world champion John Part. Taylor enjoyed a steady three-dart average of 84.73, and went on produce 13 and 15 dart legs on his way to the second round. What's more, the 16-time world champion finished things off in style as he averaged 107 in the final leg of the contest. Part qualified for the first-round contest following his 4-0 victory over Paul Lim earlier in the day. However, the Canadian was unable to maintain his 80+ average for the clash with Taylor and subsequently crashed out on the opening day. Part wasn't the only North American player in action as David Cameron enjoyed a dramatic 4-3 victory over Kevin Painter.

This turned out to be the match of the night, as Cameron came back from 3-1 down and won three consecutive legs to seal his place in the second round. Both men averaged 89 in what proved to be a highly dramatic encounter at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green. Wayne Jones also enjoyed victory in the preliminary round, as he stormed past Roland Scholten with a 4-1 win.

What's next for the winners?

Phil Taylor will take on either John Lowe or Les Wallace in the quarter-final. David Cameron, on the other hand, will face the current world seniors champion Robert Thornton in a first-round clash. Wayne Jones, meanwhile, will return to action in the first round against three-time world champion Martin Adams.
