World Snooker Championship 2019 final: Judd Trump finishes off John Higgins in style to clinch first title

Eight years after he was beaten by John Higgins in the final of the 2011 World Snooker Championships, aged 21, Judd Trump has finally turned his precocious talent into a world title, beating the same opponent with a mesmerising display of potting well worthy of the Crucible’s wall of champions on which he has written his name.

Coming back to the arena after the afternoon session with a 16-9 lead, Trump needed only two more to win the trophy and he set about the task with the same attacking spirit with which he had dismantled Higgins the night before, wrapping it up in two quick frames courtesy of two more heavy breaks.

Sunday evening was really when this match was won in one of the most devastating spells of snooker ever seen at the Crucible, in which Trump racked up seven of the session’s eight frames. By the end of the match he had set a new record for most centuries in a final – seven – and finally cemented himself at the top of the sport.
