World Snooker Championships news: Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams impress during quarter-finals

Six-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan went a frame behind in his quarter-final tie against Stephen Maguire, but the 46-year-old regained his composure to build a healthy lead. After a scrappy opening leg, O'Sullivan quickly found his rhythm and went ahead thanks to a run of 54 in the third. Further breaks of 70 and 123 propelled him into a commanding position, before Maguire crucially drew one back in the eighth frame. With a spot in the semi-finals up for grabs, play will resume with O'Sullivan now 6-2 up on the Scot.

Mark Williams also built up a 6-2 lead during his quarter-final tie with Yan Bingtao. The 47-year-old started brightly and took a 2-0 lead over China's Bingtao, before the 22-year-old rallied and drew level at 2-2. But from then on, Williams put on a mightily impressive performance, with breaks of 60, 106, 72 and 77 helping him to four frames in a row. What's more, Bingtao failed to pot a single ball in the final three frames, before the interval was called with Williams up 6-2.

The 2019 world champion Judd Trump also put on a good showing during Tuesday's action, with the 32-year-old 5-3 up against Stuart Bingham. Both players scored century breaks, Bingham's 106 the highest in the seventh frame, before Trump edged a tense final frame of the session 73-35.
