British fans will not be able to watch television coverage of this week's Monte Carlo Rally as no deal has been agreed between the World Rally Championship promoter and any broadcaster.
Right up until the start of the opening round of the 2013 WRC, there had been hopes that a deal would be struck, but it proved impossible.
The promoters are now working hard to secure coverage in time for next month's Rally Sweden.
A source close to the promoter said: "There's no doubt, these guys are working very, very hard to make it [WRC coverage] happen in GB, but it seems time has beaten them this time.
"It's a shame, but they fully understand the importance of the British market and there's a big push to make sure it happens."
Welsh Channel S4C does have a deal in place to screen coverage of the WRC, but it will not be back on air until April.
Other key markets for the WRC in Europe - including France, Germany and Spain - all have renewed and stronger agreements in place for this season.
