The Briton missed the braking point, cut over the inside kerb, failed to t-bone Alex MacDowall’s Chevrolet and crashed into the concrete wall.

Boardman was transferred to the medical centre for checks and then sent to Marrakech’s military hospital for an ultrasound scan as he is suffering from traumas caused by the safety belts.

He will not take part in the races.

Apparently the accident was a consequence of brake failure.

The session was red-flagged and not resumed with four minutes left on the clock.

Another red flag was caused by Michel Nykjær in the early minutes. The Dane spun and brushed the wall at Turn 14, but his car suffered only from minor body damage.
