Dudukalo missed the braking point at the first chicane and t-boned the sister car of James Thompson during last Saturday’s qualifying session at Monza. This forced the team to withdraw both cars from the Italian event.
The team are now working against the clock to rebuild the two Granta racing cars that suffered from extensive damage.
“It was very disappointing missing the first races of the year, but safety comes first and we did not want to take any risks. The sort of repairs that were needed could only take place back at base in Magny-Cours and this is why we took that tough decision. Now our main task is to prepare ourselves for the races in Marrakech,” team principal Victor Shapovalov explained.
“Mikhail is a young talented driver. I am sure he will be able to adapt to the car, the team and WTCC the format. We have already worked with him in the Russian Championship, when he driving for the Lukoil Racing Team LADA. I am confident that our partnership in WTCC will be successful.”
Kozlovskiy added: “I am happy to join the LADA Sport Lukoil team. Each touring car driver dreams of WTCC and I am no exception. I wanted to participate in the world championship and now I’ll do my best to achieve good results.
"The Marrakech debut without tests will not be easy, but I hope to be fast and not to waste too much time. Actually the LADA Granta is not completely unknown to me, as I drove it last year in the Russian championship.”
