Valente, 20, has experience in karting and Formula Renault and comes into the team having had a sabbatical in 2011.
He is currently the leader in the French SEAT Leon Supercopa and can take the title on Sunday.
“I’m delighted to be able to race in the WTCC at Shanghai and I thank SUNRED for giving me this opportunity," Valente said.
"It's like a dream coming true. It will be an exciting and very tough challenge and I want to use this opportunity to evaluate my chances of joining the world championship next year."
Macau racer Kelvin Leong Ian Veng will also take part in the WTCC Race of China at Shanghai at the wheel of a JAS-built Honda Accord Euro R car, run by the Song Veng Racing Team.
The 31-year old driver is currently on his way to be crowned champion of the Macau Touring Car Series for the third time.
Kelvin Leong has already clinched the MTCS title twice, in 2008 and 2009.
