It is the second consecutive visit of the World Championship to mainland China and Shanghai.

However, unlike 2011 when the WTCC raced in the short Tianma racetrack, this year it will run on the modern Shanghai International Circuit, located in the Jiading district.

The circuit was inaugurated in 2004 and has been home to the Formula One Grand Prix of China since.

The WTCC will use a shorter layout compared to Formula One, with a 4.6km circuit that features a shortcut to link turn four to the exit of turn eight, cutting out 850 metres of the Grand Prix track.

The two races will be held over 13 laps with a 28-strong field and, just like last year, will share the event with the China Touring Car Championship.
