LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

BURNSIDE (Lingfield Park 4.40) has been placed in four of his last five starts in middle-distance handicaps since switching to the all-weather this winter and while has yet to break his maiden tag after 11 starts, Adam Kirby has been booked today, suggesting connections mean business. He had every chance of winning a claimer at Wolverhampton last time but was short-headed by Halstatt over 1m6f. Back in handicap company today and down to 1m5f, on a track that he appears to like, Ian Williams’ runner should not be far away again.

WALSIGNHAM GRANGE (Catterick 1.15) looked in need of the experience when going hurdling for the first time at Bangor in November, despite finishing runner-up to Tasty Ginger. Better followed here on his second try when short-headed by Fidux and he was again in the frame at Wetherby in December. Having had a break, Pam Sly’s four-year-old, who was rated 73 on the Flat should be fresh for extended 1m7½f juvenile hurdle. Crucially, his sole win came in heavy ground at Nottingham and with plenty of rain about, that might play into his hands.

CAPRICE D’ANGLAIS (Catterick 2.15) was foiled in a hat-trick bid at Leicester last time when folding tamely having gone up the weights significantly. Despite the weight, he ran well below his true form and Richard Hobson’s five-year-old still has a bit more scope for improvement over fences. Perhaps his 25-length Boxing Day romp at Huntingdon took a bit more out of him than we imagine but he may still be of interest in the extended 1m7½f novices’ chase now the handicapper has dropped him a couple of pounds.

POPSILCA (Kempton Park 6.45) is by no means a certainty. Mick Quinn’s three-year-old made the most of his lowly mark on her handicap debut, getting the better of Little Miss Daisy in a bunched finish to a 5f event at Lingfield last month and rightly so, the handicapper has not been too impressed, raising her just 2lb. She faces five rivals in an equally weak 6f handicap and while there is no guarantee she will follow up, she is still at the right end of the weights.
