Each day Bet4Causes will mark your card, providing a preview of the day’s racing and offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

After two weekend winning NAP selections, take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British and Irish meetings on Monday, January 23, 2017.

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

THE BAY OAK (Bangor-on-Dee 1.50) will have to give 6lb to all but one of his five rivals in a fascinating 2m7f novices’ hurdle that kicks off a six-race card at the Welsh track. Dan Skelton’s representative has won two of his last three, justifying favouritism each time, with Bridget Andrews getting on well with the six-year-old each time. He has had just three starts over hurdles and followed up is second-place at Catterick in November with victory at Catterick when stepped up to 3m1½f last time. He dossed up the run-in, so clearly holds a bit back for himself, as all good horses do, but the drop in trip should not be a detriment to him.

DUBAI ANGEL (Newcastle 2.40) is one of three penalised recent winners in the 2m6f novices’ hurdle, having made all over 2m1f on faster ground at Sedgefield on Boxing Day. Malcolm Jefferson stated that Sedgefield was not his ideal track and he would be better for going up in trip and against better opposition. He gets all three today, with Newcastle’s galloping circuit appearing to be right up his street. The six-year-old takes on 10 opponents but looks the one to be on.

THE LAST DEBUTANTE (Wolverhampton 3.00) represents Mark Johnston’s stable which patently does not get the credit it deserves for consistency and the number of winners churned out year after year.  This three-year-old Henrythenavigator filly has had just four runs and has gone close on a couple of occasions, notably in a 1m maiden auction event at Chelmsford in November and over 1m1½f here two weeks ago. She was asked to close, which she did rapidly down the back straight, but was a little one-paced near the finish. It is still early days but she is progressing and can take a race of similar nature, possibly today.

BASSARABAD (Bangor-on-Dee 3.20) may be worth chancing on his chasing debut in a 3m novices’ limited handicap. Tim Vaughan’s six-year-old is bred for the job, being by Astarabad out of a 2m3f-French Grade 1-winning hurdler Grivette. Rated 107 over hurdles following a runner-up effort at Mussleburgh in November, he does not face an easy task on his fencing bow, against six rivals who include course winner Cabragh and Musselburgh scorer Rolling Thunder, but we think the potential is there.
